The SaltireFoundation’s vision is to generate a pipeline of confident, entrepreneurially-driven executives, ready to enhance Scotland’s commercial performance. By making these individuals aware of what can be achieved and by opening their eyes to new possibilities for Scotland, the SaltireFoundation seeks to push the boundaries of success for Scotland and raise the aspirations of its people.
The SaltireFoundation is about investing in Scotland’s potential…
Scotland has a proud tradition of innovation. We want to ensure this continues into the future and that our place on the world stage grows ever stronger.
We are developing a strong programme of activity to engage fully with Scots around the globe. Our aim is to attract participation from individuals who want to see Scotland succeed and will help us bring together, educate and develop the next generation of business leaders.
The SaltireFoundation will:
- Identify individuals that will make a difference to Scotland’s economic future.
- Provide invaluable opportunities to these people through experience, learning and business networking with some of the world’s key business players.
For candidates, these world-class opportunities will broaden their horizons and enable them to realise their potential for Scotland.
These opportunities are available via two routes:
1. An experience-based internship for undergraduates
2. A prestigious fellowship programme
By these means and others, the SaltireFoundation aims to help Scotland develop its will to win, its inspiration and its pride. Most importantly, we seek to foster a positive, confident and ‘can-do’ attitude among Scotland’s business leaders.
The SaltireFoundation is governed by a Board of Trustees, current membership of which is listed below:
- Mark Bamforth, Senior VP Corporate Operations, Genzyme Corporation.
- Crawford Gillies, Chairman of Hammonds, Control Risks and Touch Bionics. Non-Executive Director of Standard Life and Senior Advisor to Bain & Company.
- Helen Sayles, Senior VP HR & Administration, Liberty Mutual Group.

Strong international support
The SaltireFoundation is backed and supported by Scotland’s International Advisory Board and GlobalScot international networks. Their role is to invest in the programme to ensure its success and provide the opportunities to inspire and develop those with the potential to make a difference.
Our influential networks have a uniquely global reach and can deliver real benefits to Scotland.
But it is the SaltireFoundation candidates who will act as true ambassadors for Scotland. They will not only demonstrate the quality, commitment and passion of its individuals, but will promote Scotland as a good place to live and work.
