Mark Simmers Launches Celtic Renewables

Last week saw the successful launch of Celtic Renewables. An Edinburgh based organisation that focuses on a niche in the sustainable fuels market industry by commercialising the process of producing biofuel made from whisky by-products.

2011 Saltire Fellow Mark Simmers is the CEO of the company and is drawing upon his skills as an entrepreneur and commercialisation specialist and previous 20 years international experience in sales, marketing and business development.

The pioneering product has been given financial backing from the Scottish Enterprise with industry experts predicting that is a project that will have global appeal. Once again proving that Scotland is a country that has a vast array of credible resources.

Talking on the day of Celtic Renewables commercial launch Mark Simmers said: "The feed stock we're using to make the fuel is a residue from another industrial process, so the carbon footprint from that is very small.

"Also that feed stock is made here in Scotland and will be here for a long time to come, so that gives us a sense of energy security. It reduces out carbon footprint and gives us a sustainable source of fuel for the future."

So who knows, in the near future we may be driving around in cars that are powered by whisky!

Congratulations to Mark and the rest of the Celtic Renewables team.
