MarkSimmers

Saltire Fellow Mark Simmers has been appointed Chief Executive of Celtic Renewables Ltd, the spin out company established to commercialise an innovative technology and process which converts the by-products of whisky production into biofuels and animal feed. Mark worked with the Biofuel Research Centre at Edinburgh Napier for 12 weeks during the final stage of the Fellowship Programme, to drive the commercialisation of the Proof of Concept research project which developed the new technology. The 12 week project included producing a full business plan, securing an IP license agreement with the university, applying for a SMART award, establishing the new company and identifying potential investors. Mark is now working to secure first round funding for the company to enable Celtic Renewables to start operations in September 2011.
