SaltireFoundation undergraduate awarded prize for excellence

Chris Gordon, a 2008 SaltireFoundation undergraduate intern, has been awarded the coveted BP Prize for Excellence for the best final year dissertation from Heriot-Watt University's School of Management & Languages.

The dissertation, entitled An exploration of the legal and international business issues faced by the multinational enterprise in this age of globalisation, was based largely on Chris's SaltireFoundation internship and used his host company, Wood Group, as a compelling case study analysis.

The recipient of the BP Prize for Excellence is selected by BP and a panel of university judges. Chris was chosen from 178 graduating students to receive the £1,000 prize.

Chris, who graduated in June with a first class MA in Management with Business Law said: "The SaltireFoundation undergraduate programme was easily the most influential experience of my life. To be exposed to the inner workings of a multinational success story is a dream for most ambitious business people, and to have this experience while at university was invaluable.

"To be recognised by the BP Excellence Awards is a great honour and an immeasurable confidence boost as I embark on my career. My SaltireFoundation internship at Wood Group formed the core of my dissertation and the experience will undoubtedly have a lasting and positive effect on my personal and business development."

Irene Johnstone, executive director of the SaltireFoundation, added: "Chris's achievements are an inspiration to his peers and a perfect example of the SaltireFoundation's aims. Our programmes are designed to enhance the careers and development of Scotland's emerging business talent and Chris is surely set for great success.

"It is important that our undergraduates are given the opportunity to learn from the business world's most influential success stories and we are privileged to have the support of multinationals such as Wood Group. Chris's decision to use this experience as the basis of his award winning dissertation is testament to the potential the SaltireFoundation's programmes hold for Scotland."
