It's been quite a time to arrive in Houston...as the basketball team, which is much loved, has been doing well in the play-offs.....And I use the past tense as on Sunday they got a whippin' from the LA Lakers....so this morning, there will be a lot of sore heads and bruised egos.....
Having spent four months at Babson Charm School, where the intensity and challenge worked together to shape and sculp entrepreneurial meta-physics, then the first fortnight in Houston, Texas has been hands on and boots on...literally. The technology used and developed by Shaw has to work in all climates and of course subsea... Very briefly to give you a context of what the technology achieves...it's like an MRI scan for critical welds on pipelines or an ultrasound to check the intergrity of welds. And whilst here it has become apparent to me why this technology is so vital... Imagine an 800 mile subsea pipeline laying on the ocean floor at 1500 metres depth... If just one weld out of the hundreds completed is below par, then the consequences are enormous: leakage into the sea, pollution, major outages as the pipe has to be repaired 'offline' and significant loss of revenues for the energy company who owns the pipeline....
Geography is also a major component of the challenge..as pipeline builds take place wherever the black stuff is found. So, Shaw has to be global in relation to the needs of its customers and the training of its staff.
Simon Boyle aka The Sundance Kid and me have been out in the field, observing weld qualification techniques and avoiding rattle snakes and other critters that populate these parts of Texas. Interesting to say the least....!
Well Ya'all...you take care and tune in some time later for another episode of Boostin' in Houston...!!
Brilliant! Like the colours
so that makes you Butch Cassidy, right Jim?
