Where are we going with the blogs on the Saltire site in the future....
I asked myself the question....If the Saltire Blogs were not in my life..would I be missing out on something?
What value do we hope to bring/create in the future? Do we chat on facebook , network on LinkedIn, tweet a bunch of crap on Twitter about our holiday snaps and use the this site to deep dive on real business issues....? Are we subject to editorial sanction? And God knows, we all Skype....I've even got his address...!
Help me out guys...what do we want to make this site long-term...? How can we shape it for cohort 2, 3, 4 etc... and what will the undergrads be looking for..?
I could spend hours social networking and involved in Web 2.0. As Big Stevo said...One can get Web 2.0ed out....So how clinical or otherwise do we want this to be?
My personal perspective..to kick things off...is that it should be a positive forum for discussion and debate, where all involved can guide, argue, counsel and challenge ideas, assumptions, mantras and other issues with big words in them. Visitors to the site should be captured by the 'lens' we use or blogs that are 'chosen' for release should reflect the crispness and creativity that we have.....

I think these blogs are going to be public facing in the near future, so I wonder if these should be more designed to promote the Saltire Fellowship experience to potential sponsors and even possible future fellows?
I think the more frivolous stuff finds a better home on facebook, and discussion probably works better in the forums (which will remain private)?
It's clear we all have very different ideas of how this space should be used - I wonder if it's owners would like to give us any guidance?
Thanks Ian...I look forward to what others add...Jim
My opinion is that the blogs each of us contribute to this community should reflect our personalities and different outlooks on life. It should be up to the individual to decide the content, within reason, that they want to reflect their experiences through this life-changing process. I also believe that at this early stage of development (where not everyone has had a chance to blog as yet) that it would be wrong to start policing how people express themselves.
I am happy to follow any direction we are given but personally feel that an encyclopedia of business white papers, though valuable and vital to instigate discussion, might become a bit monotonous after a short while.
Perhaps this particular string would be better kept in a private forum?

Thanks for raising this Jim. I’ve just discovered the private forum after reading Ian’s post and feel that this could be a powerful tool for asking questions and banging ideas off each other and subsequent cohorts. It could be especially useful when we’re developing our businesses and need advice, contacts, second opinions etc.
As for the blogs, I concur with Ian’s thoughts. Some advice from the Foundation would be appreciated.
Hmm, I've kinda used the blogs to let you all know about my experiences here in St Louis thus far and I would to continue to use it that way when I get back to home to Scotland and move forward with my own future beyond saltire.
I use facebook, skype etc for the frivolous things like Ian said but I wouldn't like this site to become too 'business like' with no humour and no sense of our own personalities shining through.
Can it not be both? a stimulus for debate/discussion on business matters; a forum for advice and guidance and equally a reflection of the fun people we are......we are aren't we??
Lets show the undergraduates life is about mixing both well!! (I speak like the old woman I am :) )

Some thoughts..
I am sure the administrator will give us guidance.....
Lesley...great comments on a middle of the road approach..
Rhu.. We are not looking for policing, just some direction..afterall it's not tripadvisor or a dating site...!!
So is it Facebook for Fellows?
The Blog is both interesting and stimulating as it stands. The personalities and individuality of all the members comes through, mixed with the right balance of updates and enticement to investigate the fellowship further.
