Hello all!

I am a Blog Virgin so I am not sure how this is going to go but as they say in for a penny in for a pound!

It’s been great reading how everyone is getting along since their life post Babson.  For me the time has really flown since January. In ways it seems like only yesterday since we arrived on a cold, snowy night to the beautiful winter wonderland that was Babson. Now 20 weeks later I am at Genzyme in an amazing environmentally friendly building which has a Platinum rating and is one of only 18 in the world, which is pretty cool. I am lapping up this experience and trying to make the most out of every minute as the 12 weeks will go very quickly. I am working in the International department on a new business initiative project and already I have learned so much. In my previous life I spent many years in cancer drug discovery and development both on the research and commercial fronts and it is great to be fully immersed in driving new business initiatives forward with the hope of building sustainable relationships with governments and institutes in different countries in order to bring therapies to patients with unmet needs….what a learning curve with many useful lessons learned to take back to Scotland. Also, being surrounded by people that are at the top of their profession is enlightening.

Being in Boston is great as well, what a wonderful city. I am living with Paul, Ian and James and we are having a great time in Cambridge exploring different restaurants and bars when we get a chance! The other good thing about Boston is that there are so many great events to take part in. For example, last week I attended the WEST event – woman entrepreneurs for science and innovation and it was a really great night down at the harbor. It was great to be among so many successful women entrepreneurs and hear their different routes of getting to where they are today. The winners of the leadership awards also gave some short speeches…..not quite like the Oscars but you get the idea! One person in particular spoke about a line she had heard from the TV series ER - “be generous with your time, your love, and your life” with respect to work as well as our lives outside work and how true really as it is so easy to get caught up with oneself! So that’s my top tip for the day! Well I think that’s about it from me so goodbye from a lovely, sunny Boston.                         ..

Remember to keep collecting the business cards!  It is nice to see you putting your great experience into words.  We know how much you are enjoying the externship, though I can say that you have an amazing energy and passion which you are too humble to talk about.  This great experience is perfect for you.

Thanks for making dinner tonight as well.....very tasty!
