As we fellows are making plans for our return home, a new group of much younger Scot’s (English & Irish) have descended upon Boston, and are making plans for their next 8 weeks here.
Four have internships with Liberty Mutual, Allan, Cat, Nicole and Orla, and there are two at Genzyme, Susie and Kirsty. I had the opportunity to meet with them all over the course of the past week, at various lunches, drinks, BBQ’, a short tour of the city, and most recently at a Green Day concert, and they really are a great bunch.
Coming towards the end of our seven months in the US, your mind can drift towards the flight home, but these guys are so switched on and enthusiastic it’s hard not to be re-energised.
All of them are clearly very intelligent, and highly motivated, and through the enthusiasm they each show for their projects I am sure they will all really benefit from the Saltire experience, and go on to have successful careers after Uni. (As long as Cat stays away from jobs that involve guessing peoples ages, 40 indeed, and if Allan can avoid a position within the shoe industry!)
Welcome to Boston!
I'm sorry I have not had the opportunity to meet with any of the undergrads setting out on their new challenge. It sounds like they're really going to make a difference and contribute to the companies lucky enough to have them as interns.
I just want to wish you all the best of luck and it might be a complete cliche but work hard and play hard. Have fun in the city you're visiting and enjoy this unique experience. Those mental pictures will stay with you throughout your career and throughout your life in general!
