My name is Lester Burnam....

One of my favourite movies - American Beauty.  And in a strange way it served as a catalyst for change in my professional life.  But I won't bore you with that...

Whether you are 25 and looking at the future or 42, like Lester and contemplating change, then there are plenty of alternatives.  With my father in hospital - he's 72 and suffering from wear and tear, we visited with my daughter.  As I drove home in a rented car  [my posh sports car is back at the dealership and is up for sale], she commented to me "I'm worried about papa".  She is 11.  I told her not to worry and that dads do the worrying so wee girls don't have to.  So I started to worry.

Skint with another four months to go on the Fellowship, pedigree Doberman gone as my wife couldn't handle him while I was in the USA, scrounging games of golf from friends, all the service lights illuminated on the 7 year old 'tired' BMW 3 series, mortgage rising  by the month and getting back to health after 3 weeks of cryptosporidosis....

The worry stayed with me all weekend colouring my thoughts with a grey hue. It's not something I normally do.

My wife obviously picked up my thought processes and said " You know you tell Laura not to worry and that worrying does no good, you need to stop worrying.  When they are battering down the door, then we can worry."  Good advice.

Like Paul in his blog, this year has not just been about great learning and framing me as a more commercially sound entrepreneurial leader, it has been about re-evaluating lifestyle and perspective.

I've stopped worrying today.  Although it sharpened me up a bit.  My father in law has invited me for a round of golf, the sun is out and like Lester Burnham -

I still have the ability to surprise myself......Rock on the next four months!!

C'mon Jimbo chin up - after all we did invite CG out for a beer on curry on Wednesday, and he's in the chair...!

I've been testing a hypothesis throughout these past 8-months.  Just how do great entrepreneurs make the leap and leave the high-life behind?  - simple, they love what their doing and have that innate ability to convince themselves and others that everything will just work out fine - and usually it does...Trust me I'm a Dr...

And if it doesn't - hey we can always start a company gutting grass and cleaning gutters..
