Thanks David!

Hi,

A big thanks to David Bowie of Aircraft Medical and Chairman of the Fellowship Advisory board for meeting with a few of us yesterday for lunch. We all commented on how those intimate sessions often deliver most strongly on value and yesterday's session was no different.

Throughout my career, I have alway tried to identify role models to aspire towards. In my first week in the world of work, I was told to...

"look at the successful people around you and ask yourself, what is it they are good at that has got them to the position they are in today? In what areas are they not so strong, preventing them from climbing further? Build your positive role model as an amalgam of all the good parts of people around you, however always do the same for the negatives. Don't aspire to be the people you admire, but aspire to behave like their good parts and to work on the bad parts you have in common"

This advice resonated for me and is something I have tried to do throughout my career (you can all judge how successful I have been!). Indeed, I have built mental "good and bad" roles models for the 2009 Fellows...I wonders whose traits made it into each!?!

David certainly has many positive characteristics that we can all aspire to as future leaders in the Scottish business community and it was a pleasure getting a chance to find out more about him.

Si
