Taking the first step was deciding to leave my job and do something else, way back in 2008. The second step was getting a place and completing my year on the Saltire Fellowship programme. The third step..? Ensuring the motivation for taking the first two steps becomes are reality.
What is that motivation? Well, it was to better myself, add a string to my bow, move away from the mundane and into the position of leader, broaden my experience, spend time abroad, educate myself, build my network in Scotland, build my network outside of Scotland, learn to think like a business leader, start on the path to become Scotland's next great business tycoon and finally to enjoy the process of changing my life. If some or all of these statements resonate with you, then you must consider the Saltire Foundation's Fellowship programme. So, back to the third step...well, I'm happy to confirm that many of the items on my list are complete. My foot is now in the air, mid-stride. Before I finish my journey I must now deliver the success that I wanted to achieve way back when deciding that the Saltire programme was right for me. After completing the course, I joined Human Capital Services (HCS) as their Commercial Director: A small business in Scotland with big aspirations to upset the apple cart in the Business Services & Software arena. The company was founded on the back of world class Human Resource expertise with a value proposition that is all about improving the chances of business success in Scotland & beyond. How could I refuse this opportunity? A growing Scottish business, investing for growth, whose business is all about improving the chance of success for its clients by lowering cost, reducing risk and (most importantly) maximising the value of the human capital they employ.
I'm nearly three months in and my Saltire experience has been key in the progress I've made to date (which is another blog all on its own). Check out our website...http://bit.ly/HCS-Home and contact me to find out more about all the great thing's I've been doing here at HCS.
The beauty of hindsight is that looking back at your achievements makes them seem easier than they were. I'm sure steps one and two were hard at the time, but step three is definitely hardest! What's brilliant though is that I'm totally confident that I can go on, plant my foot down and announce this journey as a success - if nothing else, Saltire has given me that belief.
