The Fellows of 2009 will know that I do like my own space.... One of the things the Fellowship year drills down upon is 'what makes you tick' and what kind of person you are. I like space and time to process. This is good to know as a leader. Being able to 'check in' with yourself and adjust your behaviour to meet demanding situations is vital in making progress with teams in business.
Someone must have gone and told my new team that I like my personal time- cause they've all abandoned me...!!
Well actually I am all alone as they have all travelled to Houston, TX for training and familiarisation. This is fantastic and really highlights the progress that we are making as a new 'start up' within ShawCor. We have recruited another senior project manager and are gaining some traction in supporting our UK colleagues.
I have just returned from two weeks in Texas where I attended the Houston Rodeo. This was a great experience. Everytime I go there I learn something new about American culture and the Texan mentality. It is almost like a country within a country.
Some of the Fellows got to meet some potential candidates for the 2010 programme last week. It was an information evening. It was well attended and I was impressed by some of the people there. I'm looking forward to the assessment centres.
The Saltire Fellowship has been the best thing that has happened to me- personally and professionally. Yes, I have a new career at a great company, but I know that as a Fellow I can make a real difference to any company I am with or start. The 2009 Fellows are already steaming ahead driving business. The 2010 cohort will do the same.
So if anyone is thinking of applying, imagine what you could be doing in 18 month's time.......
