It's all about fit....

Whether it's an entrepreneurial start up, a $20M business or large department in a multi-national, people make a business.

The boss, hirer, recruitment company or human resources department has to sift and probe to make sure the talent matches the role.  But, it's arguably more than this....

The cultural norms, nuances and meanings that permeate the business are, in effect, what makes it the business it is and has become.  These norms may be a result of the CEO/leader's style, personality and experience combined with the sector or geography the business operates within.

So how does a business get the right people?  Should we focus on the skillset, the function, the experience a candidate has? These are all relevant.

The behavioural side and the human interaction also comes into play.  The FIT.  Some say we hire peole who mirror what we are.  Getting the fit right so that personalities, drivers and aspiration align, I would argue, is critical in building a great team that has capacity and horsepower.  There is a lot of talk on 'A' players / 'B' players these days.  If we looked at some of the best leaders, I bet they have either No 2.'s, leadership teams and /or personal assistants who are great fits with them and the cultural contexts they perform within.

The leader, entrepreneur or department head then has to checkin with him/herself to make sure he/she knows what the fit is....

Just a thought....
