What a week

To quote Mark, also 2010 Fellow – WOW!

What a week it has been so far.

Being at Babson, meeting the professors and spending intense time with the other Fellows has already baked my noodle. The immense opportunity that this programme offers is stretching out before us all and I do feel a HUGE responsibility to make the most of it.

Babson has introduced us to some amazing people in just four days.  Their experiences, views and infectious enthusiasm inspired me. Made me think of possibilities, for myself and my adopted home of Scotland.

My sometimes introspective view of the world is being challenged.  Having the thought, the spark of an idea does not make you an entrepreneur.  Actions, decisions and determination are needed to bring an idea to fruition.

Last night we had the pleasure of experiencing a collaboration of musicians from Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, the University of Strathclyde and Berklee College of Music.  With only a few hours to prepare, the musicians worked together and performed a piece for all to enjoy.  I am not a traditional Scottish Folk Music aficionado. I can’t tell you who composed the music or the names of all the instruments that were played.

As I stood there and listened to music I didn’t understand I realised the only way to improve my knowledge was to seize the opportunity and ask questions of the musicians around me.

So what have I learnt this week –

  • Don’t just think – act
  • Ask the question
  • LISTEN to the answer

Of course the hard part is to put this into action, but bring it on. WOW! Imagine what I will have learnt by December 17th!

That responsibility is a great thing to feel.  December may seem a long way away, but it will fly in.  Enjoy!  it sounds like you're well up for the challenge.  Jim
