Our one week holiday has flown by so quickly. Hopefully we are all fully re-charged to embrace the second half of our academic term here at Babson.
During the week long break, I took the opportunity to attend some of the peer-to-peer events on campus organized by the MBA clubs focused on high growth sectors. They were good networking opportunities with the mainstream MBA students, and the SaltireFoundation business cards came in really handy! As the name of the event suggests, the panelists were current students but they also had relevant experience in the subject areas which they shared with the audience, giving first hand practical tips on how to break into the respective sectors post MBA. It was very easy to network with them after the sessions and I’ve already had replies via email asking me to keep them posted with any future development or need. There was a great deal of sharing between peer groups and that in itself was a very refreshing experience altogether in this sometimes rather individualistic world that we live in.
Carrying on from that, last Friday we attended a Rocket Pitch session on campus which was very well attended. The 3-minute rocket pitches were given by students and alumi of Babson. The 100 or so pitches were held in 4 separate rooms running simultaneously under 4 major categories: Web 2.0, services, Green / Social and Consumer Proiduct / Technology. The breaks between pitches were only 2 minutes and I got left out a couple of times when trying to move to a different room! It was quite mad :) but absolutely engaging. There were some very good ideas presented and we took the opportunity to network with the presenters – it was another excuse to show off our brand new business cards and establish our presence on campus!
