Welcome to 2010, eh, 2011.

So far, Texas is amazing.

Back in Scotland over Christmas, I had forgotten how Americans like to do things 'big'. Houston has prompted a rapid rescaling of 'normal'.

Three of us (Mark, Joanne and I) are based at Shaw Pipeline Systems. SPS provide weld inspection for oil and gas pipelines, a fairly niche area of the oil and gas world.

Our projects are interesting, inevitably they have changed since the briefing notes were written.

My project will look at 'internal communications' within a particular part of SPS's business process.
It's going to be a 'Big Hairy Audacious' challenging project where results will probably be found in the human element, rather than technology. That will be fun.

Already I have been impressed by the company. Previous rocket ship growth means that the offices are new, fresh with little expense spared. Keep the employees happy: Tick.
Walking past colleague's offices, it's interesting that many have world maps on the wall - a telling sign of their global marketplace.

I suspect that there are many parts of American business culture here that will inspire and frustrate me in equal parts.
Knowing that many of the Fellows will end up in high level management positions, is this the place to discuss 'cultural things' that we hope to encourage in our next ventures?
