I am an IBMer

I am now an IBMer, well at least for the next few months.

My first day was a little daunting.  IBM has a huge campus here in the ‘Triangle’ so the first challenge was finding where to park, the correct building then locating the designated contact.  I am pleased to report that we – Claire and myself, successfully completed the first challenge.

In my two weeks here at IBM I have already learnt a lot.  Conquering the internal PC computer systems (I usually use a mac) and remembering where the canteen is located took a few days.

I have been given 2 projects to work on – both within the Hardware Global Supply, Supply Chain area.  My two line managers are both based in different time zones, which is seems to be the norm for IBM - Global team work enabled by technology.  Luckily I am equipped to work from our flat so there is no need to sit at the office until all hours.  Although I do find myself peeking at my emails and researching well into the evening!

The manufacturing supply chain and IBM itself has a whole language that I am learning.  Everyone has been very supportive in helping us settle into a very new environment.  I have had the opportunity to have one to one discussions with technical specialists and career discussions with most of the VP’s within Hardware Global Supply scheduled.

More meetings planned for next week!
