There is an old saying "The cobbler's bairns are the worst shod" - which loosely translated means "The cobblers children have the worst shoes". It is often used where somone is failing to practice what the preach - a dentist with bad teeth, a beautician with bad makeup or web designer with a bad website promoting their own work.
Or a business consultant with a neglected business...
I support a number of different early stage companies at the moment, and I regularly encourage them to think about how they present themselves to the world - the identity they adopt and the messages they put out. I also find myself talking about providing their potential customers with interesting content to build a relationship. I have not been doing these things for my own business. Nor have I been as on the ball administratively as I could be. I had been applying all my Saltire Fellowship learning to my clients, but neglecting my own business.
I took a little time out over the holiday season to try to redress this, and two of the results that are now emerging are my new website at www.salientpoint.co.uk and a new blog at thesalientpoint.wordpress.com. Now I'm doing something else that I encourage the companies I work with to do, by asking for the feedback of this friendly community on what I have done! If you have any comments then I'd really appreciate them here, directly, or feel free to start a conversation on my blog (through comments) so other readers can benefit from your input.
Thanks in advance!
