Powerful Women… Global and Local… You and I…

Mother Teresa, Helen Sayles, Oprah, Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne, Collette Grant, Melinda Gates, Karen Ayas, JK Rowling, Saltire Sirens and my mum are only a few of THE most influential and powerful women I respect and look up to.

A question I ask myself is what these women have in common – hardworking, putting others before themselves, loyal, strong, self-confident, positive energy, optimistic, honest, trustworthy, disciplined, have great integrity, determined, driven, courageous, patient, happy, ambitious and inquisitive.

These are the women who embody and enact the change they wish to see and achieve what they set in their minds eye. These are the exact qualities we should also aspire to focus on within ourselves.  We need to push our boundaries, and aim for greater successes in life.

After the Saltire women’s networking event on Tuesday last, I was so happy to be a part of such energy and I am certain that positive changes will emerge from it.  There are certainly leaders and powerful drivers in the making, we just have to stay focused and strive to what we claim is our prize.

When you think of the words ‘powerful women’ what do you see? Someone who is successful in business, family, popularity, overcome serious obstacles be it personal or professional? All these things can invoke images of power, what we see is just the end result. What we overlook is the journey they have had to get there, including all the characteristics mentioned above.

So… give all you have; don’t give up; speak your mind; respect yourself and others; stand up for your basic beliefs, values and principals; inspire yourself and others; share your gifts, talents, skills and knowledge with others; more importantly be that change you wish to see!  It’s the possession and application on a daily basis of these qualities and characteristics that makes a woman ‘one powerful chick’!

Happy International Woman’s day ladies!

Go rock the world and create your ripples!
