Little steps

'Little steps' has been the rhetoric recently.  In the past few weeks, the state of my beloved marketing and communications industry has become apparent.  Far from the headhunting that had been going on a few weeks back, I've had heartbreak after heartbreak of each and every contact that was showing some potential return to me and say how much they'd love to have me on board permanently, if only there was money.  This is more depressing than just applying for a job and not getting one because of a bad interview or lack of qualifications, by a very long way, and it hurts the first few times.  But hey, it's not my fault, and it's not theirs either.  So after a week of thinking of packing my bags and heading for London, the winds changed and one of my contacts came through for me.  I got hired as a temp in a digital agency in Edinburgh for a couple of weeks, which is super exciting, extremely fast paced, and invaluable in times like these.  I'd love to name names, but for the time being it's probably best I don't.  For anyone interested, there is a press release out about it so you can probably find information via that.  I'm learning from literally the best in the industry, shadowing, pitching, getting my hands dirty, and I'm loving it.  It will be a shame when it draws to a close, but my network has been growing and there are more internships to follow, some freelance and others on client side, and most of them will pay. At the rate I'm moving around I'll be the single most experienced recent marketing graduate in Scotland before the summer is out.  Little Steps.  And proof there is work, if you look hard enough.  Just don't lose sight of the goal.

Slainte!

Congratulations!

The thought of entering the job market at this moment in time scares me. I know a lot of recently and very highly qualified graduates that have entered the market and seem to get nowhere in Scotland and end up going to London, which is a shame. It's really good that you've managed to find something that may lead to a greater number of contacts and opportunities ahead.

Good luck in your new position and wishing you all the best!
