Hiya everybody, I'm Jai and i've just finished my third year at the university of St Andrews studying Economics and Management. I was given the fantastic opportunity to intern in Cologne with Bayer Business Services. More precisely i'm with their Business Consulting Unit. In short that means whenever there is a business problem in the Bayer group, "who you gonna call?" Bayer's consulting unit! More on that in a later post though!
After a rather uneventful flight another intern (whose also from the Saltire Foundation) and I took the train from Koln-Bonn airport. First impressions were fantastic particularly when coming in by the clean, speedy and efficient S-Bahn trains. Next a stop in Koeln's Haupbahntopf (central station) and then off on the U-bahn (underground train) to Siegstr where we got off and dragged our bags to Cologne university's international halls! Another intern at Bayer had arranged out accomodation and had done a great job with finding a good place to stay. We're surrounded by people from around the world: Korea, Africa, France, Poland and Germany to name a few places. The best thing was that on the first night we arrived they took us out to see Cologne's once year celebratory fireworks which were absolutly fantastic!
As for work, i've really enjoyed it in the first two days i've been there. The team i've been working with is really great and i've been working on a variety of things based around the project. Once i've found out how much I can disclose i'll detail more about the work itself! Bayer's campus itself is beautiful with about 25 buildings spread around a large area near the Bayerwerk station in Leverkusen. The building i'm working in looks like it should be a stately home and right opposite is the new massive glass Bayer HQ which is a piece of art in itself!
More to come soon!
