Hatfield is around 25 miles north of London, I haven’t had the chance to explore yet but on first impressions it seems like a proper University town- full of pubs and convenient shops. A lady from BAE Systems, Helen, met me on my first night and kindly took me out for a traditional pub meal. This initial act of kindness certainly wasn’t a one off as I found out the next day.
My first day in the office was great; everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I’m sitting next to a couple of younger guys in the sales department who are forever chatting and joking, actually the entire office has such a happy and relax vibe- I can see why people enjoy working here so much.
I quickly learnt Monday is all about meetings, my first experience of a phone conference was interesting, took me a good few minutes to get used to all these different voices coming out the centre of the table. I was asked to introduce myself and say a few words on the Saltire Foundation; by this point I was well practice in describing what the Saltire Foundation is and how I ended up working for BAE Systems but it wasn’t until the second phone conference I realised the emphasis I was placing on Scotland, my Scottish University and thee Scottish Saltire Foundation. This came to me as some what of a shock; as a girl born in Brighton, moving to Scotland in childhood, and having all but my immediate family south of the boarder, I have certainly always felt very British; I certainly didn’t expect to find my patriotic side by simply flying 70 minutes south but here I am in Hatfield feeling more Scottish than ever, really enjoying myself and extremely excited about next 8 weeks!
Sounds like you are having a great time Daisy! We just finished day two of our internship...will be posting my blog soon! Hope you are still having fun and working hard!
