Week 2

Well the end of the second week same so suddenly!

I spent the first few days putting together a PowerPoint presentation together on what i had done for the last two weeks, as we were (and still are) waiting for some reagents to come in. We had everything prepared and just needed to add the reagents but they did not arrive in the post on Tuesday when they were supposed to, the two members of the lab were going away on Friday so we needed them the next day or Thursday at the latest but there was a lot of pipetting to be done so it would have been very busy and quite stressful. When Thursday rolled around there was still no sign of the reagents and with the lab departing for foreign fields the next day we were stuck and could not finish the tests we wanted. This was a shame because it would have been very interesting to see the results (I’m sorry but I don’t think I can tell you what we were actually testing, just let your imagination run wild!). We also had a party as the deaprtment had only recently moved into these labs so we has some drinks and this was a good time for me to meet the whole dapartment in a relaxing environment.

So next week I am in a new lab looking at RNA in bacteria (again not allowed to divulge too much information) but the work should be really interesting and I can't wait to get started. On the weekend I met with an intern and we got the train to Zurich, I was blown away by the beauty of the city and have absolutely fallen in love with it! There is so much to do and the surrounding scenery in so picturesque plus the weather was absolutely boiling which is never a bad thing.

This lead me to think of my top 5 cities in the world (excluding Scotland of corse)

1. Cuzso - Just a totally different world everybody is very friendly and the Inca architecture is breath-taking.

2. Istanbul - Fabulous city, totally crazy but unlike anything you will ever experience

3. Cork - Only discovered this place when I visited an aunty last summer but beautiful in its own right, lots of rivers throughout the city coupled with the lush green Irish landscape

4. Zurich - I didn't know what to expect with this city but I implore everybody to visit here just once you can walk through all the back streets for days and still not see everything!

5.  Paris - The city of love, wonderful, café culture. Beautiful.

I invite you to think of your top 5 cities of the world, iots not as easy as you think!
