Well, that’s it folks! My internship draws to a close...

I finished off this week going through an ISO 9001 audit, making key contacts in Vietnam and participating in a management review meeting.

ISO 9001 was interesting but not as worthwhile as it should have been. Our auditor was more concerned with going home that actually doing the audit!!! He gave a big insight about ‘doing business in Malaysia’, not thinking the Malaysian based staff would identify his business friends as being a wee bit dodgy to say the least... Anyway it was useful to show what improvements need to be made to pass the ISO.

I spent a lot of time on the phone talking to contacts in Vietnam- building relations with HSE managers in BP, ConocoPhillips and Shell. Also, I got a great response from the Philippines National Oil Company. It’s great to see the results of your work in the form of positive responses. My contacts made should help OPITO in their moves to Vietnam and the Philippines.

Management review meeting is fairly self- explanatory. I was able to give some guidelines from my perspective as an outsider to the various processes and functions. It was an interesting meeting, introducing me to the great complexities of business.

Friday was a weepy day as I made my departure. I spent some time with Ian discussing my two formal projects and also what I have taken from the internship. After work, I was taken for a lovely meal at Hakka bar and had lots of drinks with the girls til late. It was a really nice evening and a nice farewell. Everybody had nice things to say about my contribution to the company.

So now I can relax and enjoy the sunshine knowing I have given my best to the internship and got lots out of it. I’d say my communication and research skills have really been improved and I’ve made some friends for life.
