Monday morning was my first proper introduction to Katrina Wood the CEO of MediaXchange, after having spoke to Katrina many times on the phone and through email it was nice to finally put a face to the name. Monday was the end to my first week of getting settled in LA and the start of my internship project that lay ahead of me…
Katrina talked me through he 19 years of MediaXchange and how she had come to where she was today we discussed the proposals we had both create as to what we saw the next 7 weeks to have in store for myself and MediaXchange with developing online communications and growing the marketing and communications of MediaXchange.
Today was a chance for me to get acquainted with the side of the business which Katrina deals with and to settle into my 10 to 6pm day. We decided on 3 strategies for the online market and a timeline in which we could have each stage set up and running, including Facebook, Social Media sites and the Website by mid August.
It’s a quiet office in Katrina’s house in the Hollywood Hills most days it would only be Katrina and myself and at most Alison too so it was very easy to get settled and acquainted with the work, environment and each other, this environment also meant a more casual work outfit was ok which was especially on the really hot days with the canyon hot up and without air conditioning it can be hard to escape the heat but I soon discovered summer clothes and flip flops was the best way to be comfortable during the day.
Learning about the media and entertainment side of MX is something I have been finding really interesting, use to being the consumer of a show is very different from being involved with the creative side of things. It’s like making a cake in a sense….5 ingredients that all get put together in an order to create one final product after many hours of work all to be consumed in the space of about 5 minutes!!
Part of the daily schedule at MX is to evaluate the market, see what’s happening and particularly important to MX who doing what and where, so to do this one of the areas we focus on are the Trades…industry magazines, newsletters, papers and online websites.
The 3 social networks I focused on this week were Facebook, Linkedin and Plaxo to see how each would benefit MX as a company on a professional and personal level exploring the workings of each more so in the business side and how easily it could be adapted to fit with MX schedule and what advantages they could bring to a company with using an online community to keep in touch with clients and increase the advertising of the business.
Friday night Katrina took me to the BAFTA showing of Public Enemies, a film definitely worth seeing and introduced me to ‘Americas best Burger’ the In and Out burger!! It was a great way to start the weekend…..
