So week four has come to an end and it's hard to believe we have reached the half way point!

I have moved on to a different project for the same large construction company. I am involved in calculating the loss triangles; this allows us to see how losses develop over time and try to make predictions about the future. The purpose of doing this for Liberty Mutual is to pass our calculations on to the Reinsurer to ensure they have enough money to cover the possible losses.

As part of the Actuarial internship programme, my fellow interns and I have been asked to present to our managers and colleagues information regarding one of LM's key lines of business. This has definitely kept me very busy!

This week, Allan, Nicole, Cat and I were given the opportunity to attend "Senior Forum" in short this is basically a three day event for Interns entering their final year in University. Interns from all over the United States came to Boston and we were all lucky enough to stay in the Radisson for two nights. The highlight of Senior Forum for me was getting to meet LM's CEO, Ted Kelly, who is also from Northern Ireland! He was a very inspirational man and gave us all some unique career advice. I was keen to hear why he left the U.K. and what attracted him to the U.S. During the question and answer session I was lucky enough to ask him that very question. He told me "America is the land of opportunity" and although I agree with him to some extent, I feel this is a perception that as a Saltire Intern we need to try and change! We need to promote the U.K. in particular Scotland as a prosperous place to live and work; we want people to say with pride, Scotland is the land of opportunity!

Outside of work we have been super busy! We visited Cape Cod, a beach North of Boston, Harvard, the famous North end and not forgetting an unforgettable salsa class!
