So the weeks are still flying by so fast the days are turning into one big blur. Most of the week has been spent out on site as it was my turn to do a casting by myself. The previous two times I had the other two German trainees on the site helping me and showing me what to do. For me this was a pretty big deal as there is a lot of responsibility that goes with it. I have to sign off on the final check for the reinforcement and the formwork, order the concrete and arrange for delivery, perform slump tests on the first three concrete deliveries, install the temperature sensors, prepare test cubes to be sent off to a lab and record all the details for each concrete truck that comes on site, keep an eye on the pouring up on the bridge and more that I can’t think of right now.

As it’s coming to the end of the project the huge MSS that was used to build the bridge is being dismantled and all of it must be returned to Germany. Each section weighs in at about 10 tons and there are a lot of sections so arranging the logistics of transporting it is a bit of a nightmare.

The site manager gave me the wee side task of designing a calendar for the project in my spare time. So at the company barbeque on the site last night it was given out to all the 60 – 70 worker as a parting gift as the project is coming into the final stages and should be completed near the end of the month.

I think some of the best parts of the week were jumping into the huge fresh water lake after a long day at work or walking some of the trails through the massive forests just down the road from my flat. It really is an amazing part of the country and will definitely miss it when I leave.
