Well it’s blog time again. This has defiantly been the quickest week so far of my stay in Dubai. I have been quite busy in work now that I have moved up to the tendering offices. My job this week has pretty much been, extracting information from the engineering reports and inserting it on to an excel sheet. Half way during the week, I was approached by one of the managers, Jim O’Neil, who asked, if I would interested in helping him out with a project he is doing at the minute. It is the time of the year, where the company have to start looking ahead to next year’s sales targets. To set these accurately they have to be able to compare their own business figures with all their other competitors. Jim has assembled a small team to help him with this. My role in the team is to help Jim with present all the information that is given to him, in an easy to understand format. So I have this to do, and at the same time there are four unfinished reports sitting on my desk. So it should be another busy week.
Outside of the office, I have been keeping myself busy by trying to make the effort to do something every night. Just things like going out for tea, or going to the cinema etc. I think there might be some ice skating on the cards this week. Most of my weekend was spent down at the Jebal ali club, which must be the cheapest place in Dubai for alcohol, at £3.80 a pint!!! I took full of advantage yesterday the fact that they can show every premiership game live on TV over here.
The other main thing I was up to was that I attended the Heriot Watt open day. This was pretty good to see the university compared to our campus back home. I was very shocked at how small it is. It would be lucky if the whole university is the size of the engineering department back in Edinburgh. Everyone was very friendly though, and when I introduced myself, I even got my own personal tour, which took all of about 15mins. But it was a nice gesture all the same...
