I'm now in my final week here at IBM in Shenzhen and it's quite a strange feeling to think that this time next week I will be back in Scotland! I have done a bit of reflecting on my time here and I cannot believe how much I have been exposed to and been involved in, in such a short period of time. It's approaching another month end so the last week in the office has been another crazy one and outwith all the daily routine jobs I have been focusing on implementing some new procedures to help us analyse and control inventory that is at the manufacuring line and inventory that comes from returned goods. I have had a lot of meetings and a few conference calls with IBM staff in the US discussing these new ideas and we are now in the process of putting them into action. It's quite a good feeling to have helped acheive something that will hopefully in someway shape or form benefit IBM once I am sitting back in my lectures in Glasgow. I cannot say enough how much I have enjoyed working for IBM these past 8 weeks, I have gained so much invaluable experience that I have no doubt will help me in my future career. I would strongly consider even working for IBM in the future, the opportunities in this company of this size are endless. I have made some strong contacts that I hope I can use to my advantage later this year when the job searching begins.
My last few days in the office will be spent helping as much as I can get ready for the month end in the hope of meeting our inventory targets. I also have a meeting scheduled later today with the CFO of IBM Shenzhen which I am really looking forward to, I imagine she will be able to give me a lot of information about the opportunities on the financial side of IBM. Other than that I have a lot of people to thank and say goodbye to. I leave Shenzhen on Saturday to go to Hong Kong - spending a few days there before my flight home on Monday night. I changed my flights home to allow me to fly from Hong Kong instead of Shenzhen as going via Shanghai is nothing short of a nightmare. I actually went to Hong Kong at the weekend there to meet up with one of my friends from back home who was on holiday there. It was a fantastic weekend, I really loved Hong Kong. It is without a doubt at least 30 years ahead of Shenzhen which is almost unbelievable considering how close they are. I am really looking forward to spending my last weekend there before heading home. It will be a fantastic end to a fantastic internship. I really cannot thank the Saltire Foundation enough for giving me this opportunity.
I look forward to hearing about everyone else's experiences when we are all home - but until then enjoy the remainder of your internships! Speak to you all back in Scotland!
