Back to work on Monday at MediaXchange was the start to a new adventure that was beginning this week at North Highland, a company also based in LA where Ted Garcia who has done work in the past with MX when he worked at Cap Gemini.
Tuesday of that week we all arrived early at the office to set off to Meet Ted and his colleagues at North Highland who are based just over the other side of the hills in Glendale.
It was my first experience of driving on the freeway as I had been avoiding it at all costs up until now….5 lanes of traffic with nearly no rules to the road and there I was trying to cross all five to get into the correct lane….we survived even if Katrina was a little shaken up!
We were greeted by the Valet parking…which wasn’t unusual as anywhere you go in LA it’s all valet parking….expensive but worth the money to save the half an hour it can take to find a space only to come back and have a ticket on your car….
We arrived at this huge building where North Highland are based in LA, and met Ted for the first time. We all gathered in an open office which would be where I would spend my next 5 weeks working with the North Highland team.
Ted work is closely related to MX as he covers the media and entertainment side of work in the NH management consulting office.
We were joined by Bob Lamont for lunch to all discuss what the next 5 weeks had in store for each of us. It was an interesting lunch for us all but especially to Katrina and Alison who we introduced to work in China that Ted would be heavily involved in over the next few months in relation to media and entertainment work.
Ted filled me in on the exciting projects and opportunities I would be involved in during my time at NH, including social media work with Christine Lau and working with Ted to help build proposals and presentations for the China work that he was looking after.
I met Christine the next day and she set me up with what I would be working with and how she could help me. We started working on marketing and social media projects with companies such as Valero, CMA, SAG to prepare proposal decks and research for the companies to work with.
As North Highland is a Management Consultant firm it has been great to work with that area of business and has made me realize that this maybe more of what I would like to do when I leave university!
I joined business lunches and met some really interesting people and clients of North Highland which has been great to hear their stories of not just work but LA also.
As the week drew to a close with work it was once again the weekend and on the Friday morning Bob presented me with 4 tickets to the LA Dodgers baseball game that evening!
I had never been to a baseball game so I was so excited to go! It was such a great night, we got Dodgers hotdogs, bought souvenirs and cheered on the game!! It was one of the best nights I have had in LA so I can’t thank Bob and Tom enough for the opportunity to go to the game!
On the Sunday I went to a pool party at Rod Stewarts neighbours, Russ Weiner who owns Rockstar drinks….it literally was a party for rock stars…and a great way to end a weekend!
