Last day at work!!

I am now sitting in the office with less than two hours to go. It doesn’t really leave a lot of time to start anything new, so it’s a good opportunity to get my blog done, as the next few days are going to be quite hectic. When I walk out of here, in a short whole, I will not be expecting long farewells or sad goodbyes. It will just be a few quick hand shakes then on my way. This isn’t to highlight in anyway my relationship with the people over here it is more to do with the way things are here in Dubai. The first focus over here is business. People are coming and going all the time, so for the employees it is not really a big deal, people leaving or arriving. Because I soon as I leave, there will be someone new to take my place soon enough, when I am a distant memory in a few days. To be honest I think I prefer this approach to business, as it allows for work to get done quickly and efficiently. This doesn’t just, count for me being over for just eight weeks, because during my stay here, some long term employees have moved on to different things, without barely getting a good bye from anyone!!

My time for long goodbyes will be when I am down the club tonight and tomorrow. As impersonal as the work place seems over here, they certainly make up for it on the nights out. Everyone is very sociable, and I have found this is where I have met most of my contacts. It is strange though as I have met people from the office who don’t really speak much at work, but when they are out it would be hard to find nicer people. My time with Weir’s has been nothing like what I had expected before I came here. Some things better and some things worse, but if I had the chance to do it again, I would grab it with both hands. As not only does it look good on the old CV, but it has helped me learn a lot personally about what it takes to succeed, in business over here in Dubai. It has also made me more certain of the path I want to follow when I finish Uni. For that I thank them.

Now all that is left for me to do is enjoy, the sun while I still can and get organized for going home. My plan for the next few days is; tomorrow, go shopping for the bits and bobs I need, gifts, souvenirs etc. I might even, get round to packing. I will then spend a final night down the club, saying my goodbyes to everyone, and hearing fruitless promises that they will keep in touch….the usual!

My last day Saturday, I will just take it easy during the day, watch Scotland get humped by Macedonia at night then off to bed so I can get up for my early Sunday morning flight.
