For the past 2 months I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would love to do it over again. 8 weeks just doesn’t seem long enough, you just about get settled and established with the people you work with and then its time to go home. From our first week here our University Relations leader continually told us to take this opportunity to do as much networking, or ‘relationship building’ as they like to call it, as possible. You never know how you might be able to help someone out in the future or vice versa. I have indeed made many connections whilst being over here and I know that I will keep in touch with most of them for life.
I can see differences in myself from just these 8 weeks. I have been exposed to numerous new experiences as a result I have developed in many ways. I feel that professionally I now have the skills to be able adapt to new surroundings and communicate well with others. Abilities that I have come to realise are key issues for progressing both in a future career and through personal relationships. Personally I have become more self-believing and have a clearer view of what I want from life. The Saltire Foundation has given me the chance to increase my awareness of working in a lab, gain analytical knowledge of using the technical machines and also being able to fully analyse the data produced. I have gained confidence which will help me transition from being a full time student to entering the ‘real’ world and working full time.
I am looking forward to returning to Scotalnd and being able to share my experience with others. This was a fantastic opportunity and I feel more people need to know about it.
So as a whole, the Saltire Foundation has help me prepare for whatever the next step may be in my life...
