auf wiedersehen bundesrepublik deutschland

Hello everyone,

Apologies for not submitting a blog post in the week before last. There were a lot more interesting things going on this week, which I thought I could bundle into my last post.

The most interesting highlight of the last 2 weeks was meeting Arthur Higgins who is the chairman of Bayer Healthcare. Bayer Healthcare contributes around 50% of Bayer’s overall earnings – so this opportunity was pretty special. Arthur was also another one the people involved in helping make this internship possible, so it was a great opportunity to thank him for all his help. It was very interesting to learn about his career path and how he worked his way up to such a well respected position. I have been working on the future of the pharmaceutical industry, so his insights into this business were absolutely invaluable.

I have done much reflecting over this past week over what I have learnt from this internship. To write this all down in one blog post would be impossible. I have learnt so many valuable skills that I will be able to use in my future career. However there is one experience that really sticks out. And that is the challenge. I remember when we had the presentation came to Edinburgh, there was a key phase that really attracted me to the programme “you will be pushed out of your comfort zone”. Every aspect of my internship has been challenging from simply living and working in a foreign environment to the daily tasks that I had to complete. I have certainly not been disappointed, and which has consequently made this an unforgettable experience.

I would also like to take this chance to thank everyone involved in making this internship possible. Firstly a big thanks to Arthur Higgins and Dr Knights, who actually offered this unique opportunity. It is something that just is not available anywhere else.

A thank you to everyone I have met at Bayer, who taught me so much and helped me make the most out of my experience.

And finally thank you so much to all the staff at the Saltire Foundation. The process of going out to Germany, working there and coming back in one piece has been so smooth. And this has been made possible by all the hard work and advice back from Glasgow.

It has been a fantastic 2 months, I can’t quite believe it’s over. It has gone by so quickly. I only wish I could have spent a little longer out there. I look forward to speaking to everyone in a couple of weeks, and share some good stories.
