My Way

Over the past two weeks within Liberty Mutual I have gained practical experience of the responsibilities and functions of a High Yield Trader through shadowing opportunities. I learned of the process of buying and selling High Yields, the role of leverage, liquidity and capital structures and the importance of maintaining relationships with other traders, buyers and sellers. I enjoyed this experience the most from my time at Liberty. The Trader gave me great advice and tips for the future and we plan to keep in touch throughout my career.

I visited NY again for the second weekend with one of the other Actuarial Interns, a student from Bentley, and we went for a tour of Wall Street last Monday. I imagined it to be busier, it wasn't as "hectic" as I'd thought it would be. I feel like NY is a city I would enjoy to work in and I hope the opportunity to travel there on business transpires at some point in the future.

The last week the other Saltire/Liberty Interns and myself met with Helen Sayles again for lunch. It was great to have this opportunity presented to us again. She is a great role model and I'm very grateful for everything she has done for us.

I feel that the blogs of the other Interns echo the unanimous sense of both sorrow and achievement from these summer experiences. The Saltire Foundation has presented us with an unparallel opportunity to work within leading multinational companies and alongside some very talented and inspirational individuals. We will miss the people we have met and the places that we have temporarily called "home" over these last few weeks but this drives us to chase more opportunities and long for similar experiences throughout our careers. I hope that when I return I can inspire others to pursue their dreams and never give up as I have learned that truly anything is possible as long as you have the attitude and passion to succeed.

Hey Cat - you are right on the money.  Glad your back and great Wall St Photo's. Anything IS possible - you just need a little:

Passion - be continuous in the pursuit of doing what you love

Work - apply hard graft in everything you do

Focus - be single-minded focus to realize a tough goal

Push - being proactive to make things happen

Ideas - question, listen and connect to find those great ideas

Improve - innovating and being open to new improvements

Serve - being selfless in helping others

Persist - never ever ever giving up or giving in...
