A year has gone by since my last blog “When one road ends...”

This time last year I was sorting out my Visa for the States, asking previous interns about what I should take with me and generally being nervous about 8 weeks in a busy professional working environment. Some advice to all you Interns heading to your various destinations....don’t be nervous! The Saltire staff and all of us are happy to help with any queries or worries that you have. Instead concentrate on the amazing experience that you will have this summer...I guarantee it will be one of your best!

So where has my road led me...well in my last blog I mentioned how opportunities, like the one you are about to have, opens up so many more options for you. The people you will meet and network with, the events some of you will attend, having to do presentations in front of senior members of the company...all of these things and more will develop you into a more confident and driven person. Throughout my time at university I have learned so much, not only in engineering knowledge but also as a person. The Saltire Foundation allowed me to be part of a completely different working environment where I could develop my skills and network with some of the leading people in industry. As a result I came back for my final year, more confident, enthusiastic and determined. I have now obtained MEng Aero – Mechanical Engineering with distinction. Six years on and my university road has sadly ended.

The road ahead of me is with Wood Group GTS. As a result of my Saltire experience I was given the opportunity to join the graduate rotation programme...the contract is signed and I start with them in mid August. Like I have said before...one road ends, there are many more that you can continue on...however the Saltire Foundation allows you to have so many more choices than before...use them!

To all of you Interns heading out this summer all I can say is...Good luck, make the most of every opportunity, network network network, and lastly (the most important)...have fun!
