Sunshine State!

Hi all. My name is Tanya Fletcher and I have just completed my third year at Edinburgh University. I hope to graduate with an MA in Business Studies in Sumer 2011. This summer I am heading to Florida to work for Jabil - an electronics solutions company - in the Human Development department. Having completed a phone interview with the company, the staff seem very friendly and enthusiastic about their department, therefore, I am excited at the prospect of working with the team within a matter of weeks.

I believe that there are six Saltire Foundation interns working with Jabil this summer, in various departments, and we have been helping each other prepare for the journey to Florida. The visa application process (including the DS-160 online application) proved challenging, however, we managed to help each other with any difficulties. My journey to the US Embassy, London, was hopefully the most stressful part of the experience (my flight was delayed and therefore I was pressed for time) and I am expecting my visa to arrive any day now.

I still find it difficult to believe that I have been chosen by SF to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Not so long ago, I was sitting in a lecture theatre, learning about the Foundation and thinking that it sounded too good to be true. Now, I am beginning to pack my suitcase for the eight-week placement. I can’t wait!

I look forward to reading about the other SF interns’ experiences over the summer.
