The Saltire rollercoaster

An information session, an application form, a speed interview, a phone interview, and, a networking event. What’s next? The small matter of a visa application!

I have read mixed accounts of the visa application process in other people's blogs. For me it was relatively straight forward. The interview itself was far less daunting than I anticipated.  It only lasted a few minutes and I was asked three questions ‘where I was working’, and ‘with who’? Fairly straight forward stuff but then they threw a spanner in the works by asking me if I had ever had any nicknames.  Wow, I wasn’t expecting that! I started desperately thinking of all the nicknames my friends have had for my over the years but then it clicked, I had written my name as Chris - short for Christopher. So I replied ‘my friends sometimes call me Chris’ hoping that he wasn’t about to somehow reel off an embarrassing list of past nicknames. Fortunately that’s what he was looking for and I was told to enjoy my time in America. Another success on the road to Finance Transformation with Jabil circuit!

Whilst in London I met with one of my fellow Jabil interns (Jack Savory) which was a great opportunity to discuss our experiences so far and our expectations of what is to come. We will be working in different departments but I am sure our paths will cross whilst in Florida. It’s amazing how like minded all of the interns that I’ve met are and I look forward to meeting many more in the future!

On the way back from London I met some friends for a trip to Alton Towers and had an amazing time in some of the best weather I have ever seen in the UK. Whilst waiting in a particularly long queue for the new ride ‘Thirteen’ I reflected on my Saltire experiences so far and it struck me just how soon I would be in Florida working for Jabil. On my ride with Saltire I’ve been waiting in the queue for a while now and as I get near the front anticipation is building. It’s almost time for the exciting bit- the ride itself. I’ve got an 8 week long rollercoaster in front of me and a big decision to make. Should I go round it  with my eyes shut clinging for dear life and let the experience pass me by, or with my eyes open, arms up in the air, soaking up every minute of it? For me, the second option is the only way and I can’t wait to get strapped in!

Best of luck to everyone,

Chris.
