Hi everyone. I don’t really know what to say. I am so overwhelmed with the thought of being one of the lucky individually chosen for a Saltire internship. I remember hearing about Saltire and instantly realising what a fantastic opportunity it offers. However, I was put off with the amount of probable applicants, thinking what chance do I stand, and nearly didn’t apply. What a BIG mistake that would have been, I am overjoyed and very thankful that I have been given this fantastic opportunity.
I currently study Hospitality Management and Marketing within Strathclyde Business School. My internship is with Bayer Schering Pharma AG, within their Marketing department in Berlin. This shall hopefully open my eyes up to the actual application and practice of theories I have learned about in my classes, instead of just reading about them in a textbook. And even though I do not speak a word of German (though I have got a phrase book which I am trying to learn from, and shall keep on me at all times) I just cannot wait for my adventure to start.
Not only am I excited for myself, but my flatmate Claire also gained a Saltire internship, and is jetting off to the big apple. Our weekend was spent together celebrating her 21st birthday which shall fall when she is way, and the New York and Berlin journeys ahead of us. We keep thinking of more questions and more items we need to take, always coming back to our biggest question which Claire has already mentioned – how are we going to manage all our stuff with a 23kg baggage allowance?!? Although, if this is our biggest worry then hopefully we shall both be fine.
I would like to say the biggest thank you to the Saltire Foundation for this opportunity, and also thank Strathclyde Business School who have greatly supported all of its Saltire applicants.
I wish all interns good luck, I hope everyone has a great time and enjoys every minute of it.
Claire
