Hello everyone,

I'm Steph and I have just finished my penultimate year at St Andrews Uni studying Biochemistry. Having spent the last few summers working in a school uniform shop, I am very excited/relieved that I will finally be doing something much more interesting with my summer, instead of seeing all my other friends jetting off to fun places as I stay in the rain..! I still can't really believe that I managed to get one of these internships as I was about to give up in despair and accept my fate as a sales assistant. Having finally managed to get my visa after a rather long procedure, I am off to Boston to work at Genzyme on Saturday early morning. I am going to try and force myself to sleep on the plane so that I can explore when I get there! I met my flatmate and fellow intern at the Saltire Foundation meeting at the beginning of June and as from then have been much more relaxed as I thought I was going on my own! I keep hearing from everybody that Boston is amazing so i'm very keen to see it for myself and maybe after 8 weeks I might get a little bit of a tan, but that is unlikely as I may as well reflect the sun.

I'm excited to see how Genzyme works as a company and what my role there will be in it. The employees that interviewed me sounded so fun and so i'm hoping I'll fit in straight away! Perhaps over the weekend I will go and figure out how to actually get to work in order to avoid first day panic! I can't wait to get settled in, meet my colleagues and fellow interns and start to get to know my way around town. It all seems a little terrifying right now but I know i'm going to love it. I know the next 8 weeks are going to be challenging and busy but that's the way I like it anyway, and the nice weather will definitely be a bonus. I'll post another blog when i'm there so that i have a better idea of what the summer will hold!
