'Park Ya Car In The Harvard Yard''

Hello everybody,

The end of the first week in Boston has arrived and I can tell already that the next 7 are going to fly by just as fast. After a long day of travelling last Saturday, I arrived in Boston expecting to see my fellow Genzyme intern, Christine waiting to greet me off the plane...however her connecting flight from Newark was delayed which made for quite a stressful 20 minute period when I thought I had been stranded in Boston with no flatmate/driver to show me the way. Luckily it all worked out and we made it in one piece. The flat is really lovely and it feels like home already. On Sunday we took the 't line' into Boston and looked around the city for the day, as we are staying in Cambridge, a nearby town. Boston is beautiful and I can't wait to explore properly all that there is to do there!

There is not too much to say about life working at Genzyme quite yet, as we spent the past week doing work training and getting tours of the headquarters and work plants. To compensate for the week of training that all the new hires had to complete, Genzyme provided amazing food throughout each of the days which definately made them a little better! I will be working in Framingham, a town out of Boston which requires me to get the 7am shuttle bus from down the road! The early mornings were certainly a shock to the system at first, but hopefully they will become easier as the time goes on! I start work tomorrow morning at 8am so I can't wait to finally see my exact role in Genzyme and meet the team that I will be working in!

As for outside of work it has mostly consisted of getting lost/finding our way around Cambridge and Boston, as well as (trying) to fit some sun in as much as possible! There are 2 Liberty mutual interns, Alison and Lynn that live right downstairs, so it's easy to pop down and see how they are getting on. We have also been spending time with two other Liberty interns, Colin and Camilla who only live one tube stop away. Christine had family visiting this weekend, so we went out for dinner on Friday night and yesterday I went to visit a family that I know who live in Cohasset. They have a boat and we took it out to some islands nearby and went swimming in the FREEZING sea. All the americans were laughing at me applying sun cream roughly every 10 minutes, but i somehow still managed to burn, quite an achievement.

Anyway, it's far too nice to be indoors, and I need to prepare for the arrival of my parents in the morning...
