It’s hard to believe we’ve been here for 2 weeks already; time has flown by. I’m really enjoying my time here, and the people I’ve been working with have been great. My first few weeks I have been focusing on 401ks and helping with an internal audit which Wood Group are carrying out…the sheer size and number of companies in the Group makes it a mammoth task. Working with benefits has really opened my eyes to the complexity of running a business in the US. Wood Group alone offers 8 different 401k plans for over 6000 employees, which are then divided up according to which company they work for.

Taking a break from the audit I managed to attend several meetings and pitches for possible international health care providers for the company. Only 100 US employees work overseas, but they work in 28 different countries so the company truly needs a global health care plan. I have also sat in on several interviews for a new position in my department, and even got to ask potential employees a few questions of my own and share my Wood Group experience so far.

This weekend we all headed up to Austin, we toured the capital building, the University of Texas campus and of course 6^th Street. Austin is an amazing city, so different from Houston because you can walk rather than drive everywhere! We are thinking of heading back at the end of August because we all loved it so much.
