Hi everyone,
Well I think most of us are comming to the end of our 3rd week and it just dawned on me that we are nearly half way through the internship! Gone really fast huh?
I have a spare ten minutes in the office before meetings/video conferences start so thought i'd get a quick blog in.
Anyway, this week i've been researching social media's and getting some ideas on what to include in my corporate website brief which I'm going to present to the software corporation designing the site on behalf of the corporate affairs team here at Tesco Polska.
Probably the most challenging area in this project has been getting to grips with the Polish culture and what their needs, as the target audience are especially in relation to the topics appealing to them most. Corporate social responsibility is a big thing here, however, on the whole people are not quite as 'green' as in the UK and are perhaps more concerned with what Tesco (as a foreign competitor) is offering to their community, economy and society as a whole. While maintaining the 'Tesco' image the corporate affairs team must gain the trust of the population and so far have been doing a fantastic job.
Appart from the brief ( I have a meeting today with the marketing department to discuss what they think should be included), over the next few days myself and Iwona, head of the corporate affairs team and my surrogate mum while im here, are going to be linking with the UK to discuss community strategies in relation to the Tesco express stores and the negative reaction they have had here in residential areas.
Going back a couple of lines, I really have to say that everyone in the team has completely taken me under their wing and made me feel so welcome and at ease. Iwona has been very kind and offered motherly advice about tourist trips and Krakow life in general, going out of her way to sett up projects for me, showing me round her amazing home by the mountains and arranging with her son when he can take me and Christel out at the weekends. Her brother-in-law has even invited me to Berlin for a couple of nights but i think with everything at work i'm going to be far too busy. I just wanted to make the Saltire Foundation aware of the outstanding hospitality I've recieved here.
So this weekend, me and Christel are going to the cinema to see Inception - films are shown in English here and we were getting fed up with all the facebook comments saying how amazing it was. So we're going to see for ourselves. We've both been hitting the gym pretty hard (if you read my last blog you will know im now in training for my Marrakech beach body) so we'll no doubt fit a few more sessions in before monday. Last weekend we discovered the most amazing market in the old Jewish quater of Krakow but it was just packing up so we will be heading down there early to see what bargains and silverneers (sorry, i can never spell this word) we can find.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, Katie xx : )
