Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No....Its my time flying by ;)

Well another week in the gorgeous Singapore has come to an end!

This week has been really exciting in work with plenty of projects and research to keep me busy! I have been continuing my work with the benchmarking analysis which hit a high note today and made me feel like I had finally made my mark :-) An email was sent to me - the intern! - with a business proposal addressed with my name on the top! You couldn't wipe the smile from my face for at least an hour, I think my team leader was as shocked as I was about it! To achieve the highlight of my day I learned the art of building up a good relationship with the business partner and communicating effectively so if I come away with nothing else from this experience - unlikely! - I have still learned a key skill required in good business :-)

After taking a trip to the coffee area in the office I met a man named Andrew from the business development dept. and he was explaining all the Singapore know-how and sights to see. He then emailed me a huge list of things to do while im here consisting of the likes of ice skating, reverse bungie, wake boarding, zoo's, reserves and island trips. Needless to say I now can't wait for the weekend!

I feel that this week has been the most significant experience of my life so far. Through networking with other colleagues and chatting to new people I have realised the field I want to be in when I leave university next year. At first I was convinced I would become an analyst to begin with or in finance or HR but now im really set on business development. After doing some more research on it and talking to my colleagues I can really see this is where my strengths lie. After 3 years at uni debating where I will end up and finally realising it in a short week has really surprised me - in a good way!

Next week my TL has arranged for me to visit the country office to see, on the ground ,what the business actually does. I will be attending seminars, workshops and visiting the warehouse to learn about employee opinion surveys and how they prepare. Its going to be really exciting seeing the business from a different perspective so I can't wait! So far I have been based in the compensation and benefits analysis side of HR but as my TL is on leave for 2 weeks I will be working more closely on the recruitment side with HR business partner Bhupinder. I will be involved in an actual recruitment process which will help me greatly coming out of uni. I am going to take notes specifically on what they look for and what the procedures of employment are, mainly how on earth do they get a list of 500 applicants down to 5 potential employees's!

Well I have just finished work so am now away out on an adventure to Clarke Quay which is where most of the pubs and diverse cultures are stored! My colleague Maryanne has promised to let me try real Indian satay and other food names I can't pronounce but she has assured me are delicious! :-)

Until next week, have fun out there!!
