My time in Florida is becoming more and more fulfilling with each passing week, and I’m learning something new about myself all the time. I got the results of both my MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) and PI (Personality Index) tests back this week, and was amazed at how accurate they were. The purpose of these tests is to determine which groups of people I would work most effectively with, according to my personality and preferences, and I was extremely grateful to the people over in Human Development (HD) for taking the time to go through it with me. From the results, I surprised to find that my two mentors, Ron and Devin, are practically polar opposites of me in terms of PI. We had a special meeting with an HD coach to better understand each other’s preferences, tendencies, and how to make our working relationships most successful. Aside from that, my project has been moving forward at an incredible pace over the last week. We have now created a basic forecast model to measure accuracy and investigate trends – it’s now just a case of building on it. I’m really just laying down the foundations of a massive project which will inevitably be taken over by someone else after I’ve gone. Ron gave me a much-needed boost on Thursday when he told me how much he appreciates everything I’m doing for the Supply Chain team, and that there aren’t many people who could do what he's asked. Suffice to say, I was pretty chuffed!
On Friday night, Chris and I headed up to the girls’ apartment for some good old fashioned pizza and a few laughs. We were grieving the loss of Martyn from ‘Team Jabil’, who had decided to drive up to Sanibel for the weekend to see his parents on vacation.
Saturday consisted of us taking a short drive out to Clearwater beach, where we firstly sat and ate lunch in a place named Palm Pavilion, a bar/grill overlooking the beach - which was great for people watching might I add. I even got their in-house musician to play my request of some Fleetwood Mac for us, which was pretty cool. The beach itself was stunning, and we split our day between dipping in and out of the water, and catching some rays. When we returned home from the beach, we started to prepare for what was to be the real event of the day – a once in a lifetime chance to see Aerosmith play a gig, right here in Tampa. It was sheer luck that we found out about it at all, as I’d literally heard an advert on the radio a week beforehand. I said to the rest of ‘Team Jabil’ that “we’ve just got to get tickets for this” – and so we did. I’ve not had so much fun singing and dancing in a long time – their setlist was flawless and they put on a great show!
After calming down from such an extraordinary night and having a much-needed rest, we arose on Sunday morning feeling slightly hazy, but nevertheless ready to take on the mighty Universal Studios. Being back there for the first time in 12 years was incredibly nostalgic for me, and a real trip down memory lane. I was surprised at how little the place had changed, but was disappointed to find that many of the great rides that were there when I was a boy, had gone and been replaced by newer ones. I still remember watching the Blues Brothers tribute act with my Dad and brother on that same corner spot, and having my photo taken up against that same old 1950's taxi. Not to mention, the same kerb where my Dad had consoled me after throwing up on Back To The Future. Ah, good times!
I hope everyone else is having an equally brilliant time on their internships, and I look forward to swapping stories when we return home in less than 4 weeks!
