The last two weeks have been busy here in Sydney. We had a visit from our new CEO and he presented his vision and plans for the business for the next 3-5 years. I can't say too much about the content but it was interesting to hear about the overall business goals for the future and how they impacted on the day to day work in Sydney.
This week, I've been working on new collateral for the sales teams, ensuring that the correct processes are followed and that they understand the technical differences between the products and how that could benefit our customers. I've also finished updating and presenting figures on actual network performance versus the limits in the service level agreements supplied by Telstra, to the consumer.
The highlight of last week was going for lunch with a group of Global Scots. I arrived at Darling Harbour at noon and wandered around looking for the restaurant when suddenly I heard bagpipes - I just followed the sound! I was treated to a fantastic lunch with a group of professional and driven business people, most of whom are based in Sydney. I spoke at the lunch, selling the idea of taking on some students next year. It went well - one guy has a business based around importing Scottish whisky is keen to take on a student next year, I'm sure he'll struggle for volunteers!
I was also lucky to meet people who had started their own business', something I would love to do one day. Their drive and passion was inspiring and the energy with which they discuss their business is fantastic. They gave me some fantastic career advice and I've been actioning it ever since. I've met with them a few times since, all have been encouraging and give up their time to go for a coffee and ask how I'm getting on and if there's anything they can do to help - without this experience, I wouldn't have had that.
My weekends are mostly spent at the beach or exploring Sydney. This week, I'm heading to the observatory to do some star gazing and out to Parramatta to one of Westfield's biggest shopping centres in Australia.
Next weekend, Kyle (a Saltire intern at Reannz in NZ) is coming to Sydney - just in time for this year's Whisky Live event , a day of whisky tasting at Randwick race course!
