Or, 3/4, 6 weeks of 8, however you want to look at it. That's how long I've been here and as I find myself saying every time, I cannot even begin to explain how quickly the time has went. Seems to be a recurring theme in most blogs I've read.
Work is still going well, my project is reaching an end, now requiring only some insightful analysis (!) from me to round up everything i have done in the past six weeks. As said previously though, I am ensured I won't be short of things to do in the office.
Last Saturday, Adam and I ventured to Tian Tan to see the Tian Tan Buddha or "Giant Buddha" as it is known locally. The Buddha is located on Lantau Island, one of the more rural islands and definitely a contrast to Hong Kong Island where I have been living and working. The excursion involved a cable-car journey to the summit of the mountain where the Po Lin Monastery and Buddha are located. Splashing out, we decided to go upgrade from the Standard to the "Crystal" cable car which was HK$50 more (sounds a lot, but in reality GBP4.50). This cable car featured an un-nerving glass bottom (hence the "Crystal") and a handy queue skip. The third option was the "360 Sky Lounge," but at $3,000 we somehow managed to resist.
The bronze Buddha itself was quite a spectacle (Wikipedia tells me it's 34m/112ft tall and 250 tonnes), sat on top of a pedestal and 268 steps which are great fun to climb in the heat and humidity! Not to ruin the rural setting, a small "village" has been set up nearby with numerous shops including a Starbucks and Subway. Whether the Buddha approves of this, I have no idea.
So, that was my main trip for the week. Actually, this will be my last full weekend in Hong Kong as I am going to Tokyo next weekend (Stuart was kind enough to give me a long weekend). Really looking forward to that! And then of course, back to sunny Glasgow the weekend after.
Signing off with an image of the Buddha, Starbucks and Subway tastefully omitted.
