Data Cubes, Sandboxes, Stage Environments, and Charity Bra’s

The second half of last week, (post gator sighting) was really exciting for me. I’ve been working on the core team for implementing a new financial reporting tool that will save a lot of time and money. There was a global user test on Thursday last week which went very well. Most of my time was spent coordinating with the different sites around the world and getting volunteers to support the test. This was challenging and different time zones can be a real problem we opted for 7.30am in Florida which seemed fair to the plants in Asia and Europe.  I also had to organize everyone into groups, assign leaders, create instructions and send out multiple communications. I was working as part of a hugely focused and experienced team and I felt really involved and that was great. When I first got here I really struggled with the systems element, see my strange title for an example of some of the terms I have had to become familiar with. However, as my understanding has improved in the last few weeks I have reached the stage now where I don’t want to leave here and not know what’s going on with the project. I will definitely keep in touch with the team to find out. Unfortunately the scale of this project means there is no way that it could have been finished in only 8 weeks. However I am assured that this is program is the future of finance so I will hopefully come across it again in my career and not be so perplexed by the terminology

On Friday night I went out with some of the guys from work to a charity night for *** cancer awareness at a local restaurant called the venue. It was great fun there was live music photo shoots and local radio coverage. There were lots of talented fund raisers who made the most of the opportunity to get the support of the local business community. One particularly ambitious fund raiser even tried to sell me a bra costing $70($20 going to charity) unfortunately for them my student status didn’t allow me to stretch that far but I paid $5 to enter a raffle for a Harley Davidson. If I win  I’m sure one of the guys from the office will look after it for me  until I can get back over here to pick it up!

Saturday was even more exciting as all of the Jabil interns went out with a group of employees and contractors to a place called ‘The Round-up', a line dancing club in Tampa. The line dancing was much harder than  it looked and I was terrible at it. There were some other dances very similar to Scottish country dancing which I was more at home with  having been to a Ceiledh not long ago. Unfortunately we didn’t have the awesome costumes from this picture but my camera was playing up so I had to borrow one from Google images.

My to do list for the rest of the week includes,

  • Inventing a time machine so I can go back to the start of the internship just before it ends.
  • Convincing Ford to make black Mustangs in the UK.
  • Improving my line dancing skills.

I’m not sure which is most likely to happen- probably the time machine!

Have a great week everyone, not long left now!

Enjoyed reading your blog as usual Chris. So glad you're still having fun and learning lots, and looking to the future too.
