Just reading back over my past blogs and realised that the bottom part of my Expo blog has disappeared. So here it is again.
The first one we went to was the New Zealand pavilion. It was fantastic and my favourite. You entered the pavilion and walked along a slowly inclining walkway with screens showing the best of New Zealand and information about the education, farming, history, government and its people. Then you emerged onto an outdoor section on the roof that was made to look like a rainforest and at the centre was a model of Rotorua complete with hot springs and bubbling pools! It also gave you an amazing view over the rest of the Oceania zone. By the time we came out a lot of the other pavilions were starting to close so we didn't have a chance to visit Cambodia or Malaysia and the queue for Thailand was still about 20 mins long. So we headed to the Australia pavilion, which looks like Uluru, a huge, red block! Inside there was a walkway winding around the outside of the pavilion, slowly rising with different displays about Australia and its people on each side. We made our way slowly along reading the displays but were soon getting pushed along by the people behind us. There had been no queue when we entered and we couldn't understand where everyone had come from. At first we thought that people were racing to get their Expo passports stamped before the pavilion closed (visitors can purchase an Expo passport and get a stamp from every country pavilion that they visit) but then the displays disappeared and we were carried by the crowd along a corridor with an occasional window and a voice over saying something in chinese only. We started to get a bit worried when the crowd came to a stop and waited for about 20mins. Finally some doors ahead opened and the crowd swelled in that direction. It turned out that there was an auditorium in the centre of the pavilion and a video and live action show describing Australia was about to begin. Unfortunately as we had to catch the metro and finish our journeys before it closed at 10.30pm we couldn't stay. Luckily for us there was a metro stop inside the Expo site and it was right behind the Australia pavilion.
It was a fantastic evening and an amazing sight to see. I will definitely be heading back to see the rest of it!
