All Good Things Must Come to an End

I have just touched back down in the UK after an incredible two months. The last week was fantastic, and a great way to end. We had been told earlier in the week that myself and Jennifer would have to present our projects in front of two bosses; the vice president of Operations in Geneva and the head of Operations for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Asia). I prepared my own project relating to the transferring of hedge funds to a new custodian as well as a joint project with Jennifer about fee discounting in Barclays Wealth. This meant that the last week in the office was quite demanding, juggling the ongoing project that was already in process and crucial for Barclays as well as finishing off the discounting project and producing powerpoints ready for the end of week presentation. To be sure I completed all my tasks I woke up much earlier, getting to work for 7 and staying in the office later in the evenings.

Thursday came, and I’m pleased to say the presentations went extremely well. Both bosses were pleased with our progress and with our positive impact on the team. It was great to hear from such established and respected people at Barclays that my work was worthwhile, appreciated and had made a difference. We were then told we would be put in the monthly newsletter and promptly had our photos taken for the cover-don’t know how my ugly mug will make the newsletter!

On the last day we went into the office with a series of treats for the team, complete with croissants, celebrations, biscuits and some bottles of wine. It was so nice to give everyone a little something to say thank you for their hospitality and help over the past 8 weeks. As I said my goodbyes I received a few emails from colleagues offering references for the future which I thought was so kind of them. On our way out we were stopped and surrounded by our team and a lot of people from around the office and presented with cards and presents. It was so nice, everyone said how they appreciated our work and loved having us around. I got a box of chocolates and a swiss army knife. It was such a nice fairwell and will miss all the great people I worked with.

The experience was incredible, and I am so lucky to have had this opportunity. I would love the opportunity to continue working with Barclays Wealth in the future and think after my studies are complete I will try my best to apply and work in the Genevan Office.
