The Dodge Avenger

Week 7...

The Scottish weather decided to pay us a visit at the beginning of this week. It was quite refreshing and at the same time very weird having to think about unfamiliar items such as coats and umbrellas. This didn’t stop our hectic schedule however. We managed to catch up with the American LM interns we had met at Senior Forum and partake in another American trivia. It was good fun but I should have learnt by now that trivia isn’t my strongest point!

On Thursday I was very kindly invited out to a colleague’s house in the suburbs of Boston. After tackling the rush hour traffic we arrived at her house set in a quiet area surrounded by trees. I soon put a stop to the quietness when I had a go on their zip wire and awkwardly hit a hillock causing my flip flops to fly off and me to narrowly miss the tree at the end! It was such a fun evening and so nice to get home cooked food and then given the leftovers as a packed lunch for the next day!

As we had done most things in Boston we decided to visit Cape Cod, the popular Bostonian weekend getaway. On Saturday morning we headed to the airport at 6am to pick up our hire car. This was not just any old car and driven by any old driver however. The car? THE Dodge Avenger. A car which meant business. The driver? David Veitch, Veolia Saltire intern, driver extraordinaire. Not at any moment was he fazed by the blaring music, wannabe popstars, indecisive directions or any other distraction we could throw at him. After stopping at Sandwich for a bite to eat (maybe a sandwich?) and a lesson on glass blowing we headed to Provincetown. This was a bustling, vibrant town surrounded by beaches. We walked around taking in the atmosphere, lapped up a bit of sunshine and climbed the Pilgrim tower to get a spectacular view of the entire Cape. It was such a great day out and a massive thank you to Dave for driving us!

At work I am tying up the last few ends on my project and double checking everything is up to date. The nature of my project means that it has to be updated constantly as competitors and brokers are launching new technology, acquiring new businesses and talent on a day to day basis. On previous occasions information such as this has been presented in a power point format which meant that as soon as it was published it was out of date. The new Commercial markets intranet site Eddie is setting up means that information can be updated continuously; it will no longer be static. It will give LM a competitive advantage in the market. It is sad that I am not going to see the final product of it on the intranet site but it feels great to know that the analysis I have been doing will be the foundation on which the intranet will be built.

The end of my last week at Liberty Mutual is scarily close. I have a hectic lunch schedule to say my final farewells and say thank you to everyone for making this summer so memorable. I wish I didn’t have to leave! Can’t believe my next blog post will be back in Scotland, that’s if the forecasted hurricane lets us get on the plane!
